BirdCon offers each client a bespoke solution based on their individual needs or their client’s requirements. Our bird control consultancy services are used by a broad range of clients and individual property owners but our services are particularly suited to Architects and Surveyors, the Construction Industry, Facilities Management and those who have responsibility for the operation of a commercial or industrial site. We can also provide consultancy for work on Listed Buildings where specialist knowledge is essential when recommending bird control deterrents.
BirdCon’s key objective is to provide each client with an expert assessment of their problem and to offer a cost-effective and sustainable bird control solution. Due to our independent status, all advice and recommendations are based solely on the Client’s specific needs and are always in the Client’s best interests.
Before we offer any prospective client bird control consultancy services we will first determine whether or not there is a problem that needs to be addressed. Where new build and renovation projects are concerned it is often assumed that because the building or site has the potential to offer roosting and/or breeding opportunities, the building must be protected. This is not always the case. For example, when a building or site is located in an area of low bird activity the likelihood of bird-related problems arising is extremely low.
Before any steps are taken to commit resources to bird control deterrents, or to a comprehensive pigeon or gull control system, it is critically important to assess bird activity on the site itself and the area around the site. An extensive bird control system installed on a large commercial or industrial site can cost upwards of £100,000 when using industry standard controls such as bird netting, bird wire and anti-roosting spikes. It is therefore important not to assume that the building or site concerned will inevitably need protection.
BirdCon’s most frequently offered service is a site assessment to determine the extent to which a site is affected by bird-related problems. The site assessment will be followed by an area-wide survey to identify which species of birds are active in the area around the site and to measure the extent of this activity. The area-wide survey will also assess the extent to which neighbouring buildings and sites are experiencing problems with pest species of birds and if they are, how those problems are being dealt with. Surveys will be carried out during the daytime to assess feeding and perching activity and an evening survey will be undertaken to assess overnight roosting and breeding activity. This service will provide an accurate picture of current bird activity on and around the site and will allow the Client or Architect to make an educated decision as to which, if any, bird controls are required and the controls most suitable and cost efficient, and in which areas they need to be installed.
Most projects would involve the following stages:
A prospective Client makes initial contact with BirdCon
The Consultant researches the information provided
BirdCon emails a fee proposal to the prospective client
The fee proposal is accepted and BirdCon is engaged
The Consultant undertakes desk research prior to site assessment and survey
The Consultant travels to site to undertake site assessment and area-wide survey
A Client or Design Team meeting is held to discuss all aspects of the survey and provide recommendations to the Client
On-going Support
